| One of Michigan's most popular religious sites and tourist attractions, The Cross In The Woods is visited by approximately 300,000 people each year. In 1995, A.A.A. members voted The Cross in the Woods to be Michigan's most beautiful place of worship. The Calvary Cross is 55 feet high, 22 feet wide and supports a seven ton bronze sculpture of Christ. The redwood cross was erected in 1954. The bronze sculpture of Christ was added 1959. In addition to the cross, the Shrine complex also includes a gift store, museum, several statues on the magnificently kept grounds and an active and growing Shrine Parish. In 1997 a new church was completed with a glass front wall overlooking the cross. People of all faiths are welcome to visit The Cross In the Woods. |
